The Story
What started as a hobby turned into a business.
What started as a hobby for Steve Prouty turned into a business, and a business turned into something harder to put a name on — a father and son working side by side every day, building something worth building. Customers feel that when they walk in. The team feels it too.
Steve spent thirty years as an agricultural consultant and restored muscle cars the way serious people do, completely apart, down to the frame, back together better than factory. When his wife suggested an Airstream, he approached it the same way. He found a 1947 Airstream Liner — one of only ninety ever made — and a gentleman from South Carolina commissioned a full restoration sight unseen, on the strength of Steve's work alone. That project pointed everything in a direction.
Clayton came on full-time not long after, trading an unfinished college career for weekends in the shop that had started to feel more right than anything else. Steve kept running his consulting practice on the side. Eventually, he made the call. Thirty years of delivering bad news to farmers was enough. Airstream owners are a different conversation. Some of them cry when they pick up their trailer. They're happy tears.

Every good shop needs someone keeping an eye on things. Junior handles that from his rotating office — the toolbox, the forklift seat, the front window, or wherever he feels like supervising that day.
Junior showed up one day at our old Cazenovia location and stole our hearts and our food from the moment he surprised us. He's been with the team ever since, promotes himself regularly, and has never once filled out a timesheet.
When we moved to the new Reedsburg shop, Junior came with us. He now oversees a 10-bay facility, which he considers a well-deserved upgrade.

The Work
The demand pointed us in the direction we have moved towards
The shop started with vintage restorations and ground-up rebuilds on trailers most people had written off. Word traveled fast, the way it does in the Airstream community. Someone asked about an air conditioner. Then a lift kit. Then a full electrical overhaul. Then custom cabinetry. Nobody made a decision to shift toward late-model work — the demand pointed that direction, and they followed it.
Today, Midwest Silver Stream Customs (formerly Midwest Airstream Service) handles the full range: winterization, leak testing, front-end separation, panel replacement, insurance claims, solar, electrical systems, custom cabinetry, flooring, and complete interior buildouts. Some customers come in with a problem. Some come in with a vision. The shop handles both.
The Shop

For ten years, the work happened inside a 1920s creamery-turned-fire-station that built the business one trailer at a time. At the start of 2026, Midwest Silver Stream Customs moved into a new 10-bay facility at 1115 Commercial Ave., Reedsburg — built for the volume the old building could no longer hold.
Midwest Silver Stream Customs is the name that fits where they're going. A broader scope of work, a bigger facility, a clearer identity built around what this shop has always done: take something good and make it better. The name has evolved. Everything else stayed the same.
How We Work
When you call, one of the owners picks up. The other one is on the floor.
Clayton handles every estimate, parts order, and customer conversation from first contact to final pickup. Steve manages the shop and does the wiring. They don't overpromise on timelines or go quiet once your trailer is in the bay. Their line in the sand is safety. Everything else is your call.
